Cape Ann Reads Kids Compliment Certificate
** These books received Kids Compliment Certificates, presented by the children's panel of jurors, led by the museum educator at Cape Ann Museum. The panel was comprised of Eli Conlon, 8; Lucas Rodi, 12; Alycia Lopez, 10; Josie West, 10; and John Recroft, 13.
Published since the contest
Dozens of writers and illustrators submitted books for the Cape Ann Reads contest. We were awed by the effort and talent. Jury panels went through multi-phase processes of independent reviews and ratings, spirited discussion, and then additional rounds repeating these steps. We thank the panelists- librarians Justine Vitale, Carol Bender, Kate Strong Stadt, Ann Cowman, April Wanner, Pat Lowery Collins (artist & writer), Giles Laroche (artist and writer), Anna Vojtech (artist and writer), and Bob Ritchie (book dealer and proprietor), as well as Eli, Lucas, Alycia, Josie and John from the kids jury. The disappointing reality is that Cape Ann Reads couldn't publish all the wonderful books that came through and it was necessary to eliminate many promising books. The happy reality is just how mad hot creative and alive the children's book scene is and has been on Cape Ann. We are excited to report that several entrants' books were published since the contest concluded, with more coming and still more that are ready to go.
